Hyderabad FC have signed former FC Barcelona youth academy graduate Lluís Sastre on a one-year deal ahead of ISL 7.
Born on the island of Mallorca in Spain, Sastre was part of the famed La Masia Academy between the years 1998 and 2005. Over the next two years, he represented Barcelona B and Barcelona C in the third and fourth tier of the Spanish league system.
In 2007, Lluís left La Masia to join Real Zaragoza from where he was loaned out to SD Huesca who won promotion to the second tier that season. The midfielder signed permanently for the club in June 2008 and played four seasons in the Segunda División with them.
For the 2012-13 season, the midfielder joined La Liga side Real Valladolid. He spent two seasons with the club in the top tier and joined them for a third when they got relegated in 2014.
After exiting Valladolid, Sastre joined CD Leganés before returning to SD Huesca where he played between 2017 and 2019. Last season, the 34-year-old midfielder was at Cypriot-based AEK Larnaca FC from where he joins Hyderabad FC.
Over the course of his career, Sastre has amassed over 250 appearances in the first and second tier of the Spanish league system and his vast experience could provide some much needed stability in the middle of the park for HFC.
He’s a central midfielder with a lot of quality, and likes to arrive in the rival box too.
Technically, he is a fantastic player and has played for FC Barcelona’s B team. He has always been an important player in all the teams that he has played for.
We expect not just good football from Lluis, but experience and leadership will also be some of the things that he will bring to HFC.
