Jamshedpur FC have signed 22-year-old fullback Laldinliana Renthlei on a three-year-deal from Chennaiyin FC ahead of ISL 7.

Dinliana as he also goes by hails from Mizoram and was a key member of the Chhinga Veng FC team that won the 2017-18 Mizoram Premier League after defeating Aizawl FC in the final. Soon after, he joined Aizawl FC on loan and was part of the side that played in the I-League and in the AFC Cup competition.

In 2018, Renthlei moved to the two-time ISL champions Chennaiyin FC and over two years, the right back made 22 appearances in the league and playoff stage. Last season, when Chennaiyin FC made an astonishing run to the final of the ISL after a shaky start, Laldinliana was part of the playing XI in the both the semis and the final.

The longish contract also suggests that Dinliana made a good impression on outgoing Chennaiyin FC coach Owen Coyle and the manager actively sought his presence at his current club Jamshedpur FC.

The position of a full-back is crucial to any football system as it requires the right balance of attack and defence. Dinliana matches my requirements for a full-back perfectly.

He has been fabulous over the past three years and was phenomenal last season as he helped his team reach the ISL final.

He will be an important player for club and country in the years to come.

Owen Coyle, Head Coach, Jamshedpur FC
