Odisha FC have brought onboard 33-year-old Brazilian forward Marcelinho on a one-year-deal ahead of ISL 7.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Marcelinho was part of the academy at local club Flamengo after which he found his way to Atlético Madrid B in 2006. A season later he was at Getafe CF B and over the next few years played club football in Brazil, Greece, UAE and Italy before joining Delhi Dynamos FC in 2016.
Marcelo Leite’s longest spell in club football was with Greek side Xanthi FC where he notched up 103 appearances in four seasons.
After arriving in India, the winger/forward picked up the Golden Boot award in his first season with Delhi Dynamos. Over the years, he has been prolific with 31 goals and 18 assists coming in 63 matches and is currently third on the list of all-time top goalscorers in the ISL behind Ferrán Corominas and Sunil Chhetri.
During his time in the Indian Super League, Marcelo has turned up for Delhi Dynamos, FC Pune City and more recently, Hyderabad FC, from where he joins Bhubaneswar-based Odisha FC.
Life can be strange and beautiful.
After a long time, It’s great to have Marcelinho back with me. Last time we were together, he set the league ablaze with his skills and goals.
Now he has become the third highest goalscorer in the ISL and I am sure he will bang some more in this season.
He still has a lot to offer with his vision and scoring, and we both want to bring the trophy to Odisha this season.
