Jamshedpur FC have signed 31-year-old Brazilian midfielder Alex Monteiro de Lima for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League.
Born in São Paulo in Brazil, Alex spent his early years at the academy of Mauaense, a São Paulo state league club. In 2008, he moved to Switzerland with FC Wohlen – a club that has mostly competed in the second and third tier of the Switzerland league system.
After four seasons at FC Wohlen, Lima played in the Major League Soccer (MLS) for the next few years – first with Chicago Fire (2012-15) and then with Houston Dynamo (2015-17).
In 2017, Alex shifted base to Asia and was part of Suwon FC and FC Anyang for a season each in the Korean second tier a.k.a K League 2. Last season, he was part of V.League 1 club Ho Chi Minh City FC from where he joins Jamshedpur FC.
Over the course of his career, Alex has played league football in four continents, amassing over 337 appearances in which he has scored 43 goals and assisted 23.
Alex is a player of multiple capabilities. A team-player, aggressive, smart, quick, a powerhouse – I could go on with a hundred adjectives and yet, it would not be enough to describe him. He is an amazing talent who can unlock the toughest of defences.
I remember I signed him when I was a coach at Houston and he did his job perfectly well for the club and I hope he will do the same here.
A warm welcome to Alex. Wishing him a successful time with us.
Owen Coyle, Head Coach.
Alex will be wearing the No.7 jersey at Jamshedpur FC in the new season.
