Jamshedpur FC have signed 28-year-old fullback Ricky Lallawmawma on a two-year-deal from ATK (now ATK Mohun Bagan) ahead of ISL 7.
From Mizoram, Ricky began his career with Aizawl FC in 2011 and went on to captain the side. In 2014, he moved to rivals Chanmari FC and then to another Mizoram Premier League side Zo United before switching back to Aizawl FC when they won promotion to the 2015-16 I-League.
Lallawmawma made his I-League debut in January of 2016 against Mohun Bagan. Over the next two seasons, he turned up for DSK Shivajians and Mohun Bagan before making the switch to ISL with ATK in 2018.
Over the last two seasons, the left back made 17 appearances in the ISL with ATK – however all of those came in the 2018-19 season. Last season, in ATK’s title winning campaign, he fell out of favour with the new incoming manager Antonio López Habas and even a place on the bench was hard to come by.
Ricky will wear the No. 16 jersey for the Red Miners in the new season.
Ricky comes with a lot of good experience and will add great value to the team. He is a very focused individual who can play well and keep the ball.
Also, he is fast and agile – the two being important characteristics for a defender in modern football. Even though primarily a left-back, his versatility helps him play any position across the backline.
I am glad to have him joining us.
Owen Coyle, Head Coach, Jamshedpur FC
