FC Goa‘s first signing for the upcoming season is Redeem Tlang – the 25-year-old winger from Northeast United FC. The diminutive winger was one of the bright sparks for the Highlanders over the last two seasons. Last season, he made 16 appearances in the ISL and got on the score-sheet on three occasions. The winger is also likely to play a part in the Gaurs’ AFC Champions League campaign.
Born in Shillong, Redeem spent his youth career at Shillong Lajong before graduating to the senior side. In five seasons at the club between 2013 and 2018, Tlang notched up 46 appearances for the Reds. The move to NEUFC was his second stint with the club after being picked up in the ISL draft in 2014 – he made a solitary appearance that season.
With Jackichand Singh’s departure to Jamshedpur FC to be announced soon, the signing of Tlang is almost a like-for-like replacement, but he does have big shoes to fill given Jackie’s performances for FC Goa included a good number of goals and assists.
I am overjoyed. I have always been an admirer of FC Goa and now to call myself a Gaur, it is one of the best moments of my life.
I have enjoyed my time at NorthEast but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in Indian football here.
Playing in front of the passionate football fans in Goa and alongside some of the best players in the country will be an amazing experience.
I can’t wait to get started.
