Mumbai City FC have announced the departure of their manager Jorge Costa from the club – the contract of the 48-year-old Portuguese coach expires soon and the club management decided against renewing it.
The former Portuguese International Costa was appointed coach of Mumbai City FC before the 2018-19 ISL season. The Islanders finished third in the league and qualified for the playoff semi-finals where they lost to FC Goa. However, in the current season, MCFC finished just outside the play-off positions.
The club was recently acquired by City Football Group – the owners of Manchester City FC, Girona, New York City FC among others. So finishing outside the top 4 could see a raft of changes at the club and the first indicator of that is the departure of Jorge and his assistants Marco Leite and Pedro Miguel Correia.
With the City Group in charge, will there be a coach of international repute at the club come next season? And who will they sign? A lot to look forward to for Mumbai City fans in the coming months!
