Hyderabad FC have signed 28-year-old fullback Souvik Chakrabarti on a three and a half year contract from Mumbai City FC.
A Mohun Bagan youth product, Souvik joined the senior team at the Mariners in 2009. After three seasons at the club, he joined Air India and Prayag United for a season each before making his way back to Mohun Bagan.
During his second stint with the Mariners (2014-17), Souvik played in the I-League and in three editions of the Indian Super League with Delhi Dynamos (Odisha FC) on loan from Mohun Bagan.
Chakrabarti joined Jamshedpur FC in 2017 and the following season, he moved to Mumbai City FC from where he joins Hyderabad FC. Souvik featured heavily in his first season with the Islanders, but has found game time restricted in the current season with seven appearances so far in the ISL 2019-20.
An aggressive and determined player, Souvik might just be the right fit for Hyderabad FC who are at the bottom of the table and need some much needed inspiration both on and off the pitch. However, Chakrabarti doesn’t shy away from a tackle and is perceived as rash at times – attributes which might lead to disciplinary issues.
