Northeast United FC have signed Irish forward Andy Keogh to replace the injured Asamoah Gyan who has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international started his career at the Leeds United youth academy and turned professional with the club in 2003. Over the years, Andy played in League Two, League One, the Championship and in the English Premier League. In England, Keogh turned up for Scunthorpe United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Millwall among others. He represented Wolves in the Premier League and took part in cup competitions like the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
Andy spent the second half of his playing career in the Australian A-League with Perth Glory. He scored 54 goals and assisted 14 in 117 appearances. The centre-forward joins the ISL club NEUFC from Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah FC on a free transfer.
Keogh has a wealth of experience – over the course of his career he has played in 510 competitive matches and has contributed 128 goals and 57 assists. As a Republic of Ireland international, he was capped 30 times and scored twice for the Ireland NT.
The forward joins the Highlanders who have been struggling in the league and are ninth on the table. They haven’t won a fixture since the 6th of November and in the six matches they’ve played since, they’ve drawn three and lost three.
