Chennaiyin FC have wrapped up a deal to sign 23-year-old FC Pune City custodian Vishal Kaith on a long term contract.

Born in Himachal Pradesh, Vishal’s talent was spotted by the Himachal Pradesh FA and he impressed at sub-junior and junior levels for the state team. Eventually, he was recruited by the AIFF Elite Academy and was part of the academy between the years 2011 and 2014.

In July 2014, Shillong Lajong signed the young goalkeeper. Kaith went on to make 34 appearances in three seasons in the I-League and he was also loaned out to the ISL side FC Pune City in 2016.

FC Pune City signed the 6’2″ goalkeeper on a permanent basis ahead of the 2017-18 Indian Super League. In his first season with the club, he managed seven clean sheets in 17 appearances and helped Pune City reach the play-offs.

However, Vishal featured only on four occasions in the recently concluded ISL 2018-19 season after Kamaljit Singh took over as first-choice goalkeeper.

Vishal is an Indian international and is currently at the national team camp which is preparing for the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers which will commence in a few days.

Apart from the signing of Vishal Kaith, Chennaiyin FC have announced that they have retained Karanjit Singh at the club and he will be taking up the goalkeeping coach role.

In Vishal, we’re adding a top modern-day goalkeeper to our ranks.

He possesses all the qualities and potential to excel at the highest level.

With his natural ability and quick reflexes, I am certain Vishal will provide healthy competition in our goalkeeping department as we collectively work towards achieving success in the coming campaign.

John Gregory, Head Coach, Chennaiyin FC
