Lallianzuala Chhangte signs for Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC have announced the signing of 22-year-old Delhi Dynamos winger Lallianzuala Chhangte on a free transfer for the upcoming season.

The winger was in the news recently for going out on trial to Norewegian club Viking FK, but was not offered a permanent deal at the club.

Born in the town of Lunglei in Mizoram, Chhangte was scouted out by the Pune-based DSK Shivajians in 2014. In the 2014-15 U-19 I-League season, he emerged as the top scorer in the league with 16 goals for DSK and helped them qualify for the final round.

After another season in the youth league, Zuala was drafted into the 2016 ISL with Northeast United FC. He ended up making a solitary appearance in the ISL and went back to DSK Shivajians after the loan spell ended.

In July of 2017, Chhangte signed for Delhi Dynamos permanently. Over the last two seasons in the ISL with the club, the winger scored eights goals and assisted five in 36 appearances. Last season, Chhangte was the lone spark in Delhi’s dismal run in the ISL where they finished eighth in the league.

Chhangte has represented India at youth levels and has been capped 11 times of for the senior national team side. He is currently at the national team camp in preparation for the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers next month.

Having the likes of Jeje (Lalpekhlua) Bhai, Jerry (Lalrinzuala) and Dinliana (Laldinliana Renthlei) who are also from Mizoram, along with so many of the others whom I already know, will surely help me settle quickly into the new team.

It will also help a lot on the pitch, as Mizo is very difficult to understand for other players!

Lallianzuala Chhangte

In (Lallianzuala) Chhangte, we are adding one of India’s brightest talents to our ranks. Along with his electric pace and fearless approach, he has the hunger to succeed and develop further.

We’ve all seen the potential he possesses and what he’s capable of. His involvement and progression with the national team also says a lot about his pedigree.

We are now really excited to see him perform in the Chennaiyin blue,

John Gregory, Head Coach, Chennaiyin FC
