Chennaiyin FC have brought on-board 30-year-old Romanian winger Dragoș Firțulescu on a free transfer from Bulgarian top-flight club FC Dunav Ruse.

Born in the city of Craiova in Romania, Dragoș spent his formative years at the local university side FC U Craiova 1948 before going on to represent the senior team for five years (2006-11).

Over the next few years, Firțulescu spent a season each up and down the Romanian league tiers and also represented clubs in Cypriot, Hungary and Bulgaria. Overall in the European leagues Dragoș has played in, his 177 appearances have yielded 11 goals and 17 assists.

Firțulescu will find a familiar face at Chennaiyin FC in fellow Romanian Lucian Goian who joined the two-time ISL champions recently.

Dragos adds a lot of depth in an attacking context for us.

He brings plenty of energy, enthusiasm and experience to the table. His attitude is extremely positive, and I am certain he will prove a valuable addition to our squad even off the field.

He has all the makings of becoming a fan favourite, in my opinion.

I can’t wait to see him and the rest of the boys on the training pitch in pre-season!

John Gregory, Head Coach, Chennaiyin FC
