Chennaiyin FC sign Afghan defender Masih Saighani
Masih Saighani played for Aizawl FC in the 2017-18 season.

Chennaiyin FC have signed 32-year-old Afghan defender Masih Saighani from Abahani Limited Dhaka on a free transfer for the upcoming season.

Born in Kabul, Masih immigrated with his family to Germany at the age of two and started playing football at the age of five as his family moved across refugee camps.

Eventually, he joined the academy of a fifth-tier club in the German league system – VfB Marburg. He made his debut for the senior team in the 2004-05 before going on to represent a number of lower division German association clubs.

Masih is no stranger to India having turned up for Aizawl FC in the 2017-18 season. The following season he joined the Bangladeshi club Abahani Limited from where he joins the two-time ISL champions Chennaiyin FC.

Saighani is 6’2″ tall, comfortable on the ball and can also play as a defensive midfielder. The 32-year-old faced Chennaiyin FC  in the AFC Cup and joins new signing Lucian Goian in defence at the club.

I am very happy to have joined the club.

I hear a lot about the fans, see a lot of support even on social media.

A team is always as strong as its supporters, and CFC is extremely strong in that regard.

They can be certain that I along with the rest of the team will put our best foot forward in the new season.
