Kerala Blasters continue to pick off foreign players with experience in the ISL – this time it is former West Bromwich Albion and current Delhi Dynamos defender Gianni Zuiverloon.
The 32-year-old Dutch defender spent 11 years (1993-2004) at Feyenoord’s youth academy. Following a brief spell with the senior team, Gianni moved to another Eredivisie club – SC Heerenveen.
After three seasons at Heerenveen, Zuiverloon shifted base to the English Premier League with West Bromwich Albion before making his way back to the Dutch Eredivisie with ADO Den Haag.
Zuiverloon also has experience in the Spanish league system with Mallorca and won the Segunda División B (third tier) with Cultural Leonesa. He joined Delhi Dynamos for the 2018-19 Indian Super League season from Cultural Leonesa.
Although Delhi Dynamos had a season to forget, Zuiverloon impressed with his composure and anticipation on the ball and his range of passing. With Gianni’s signing, Kerala have reinforced their already strong-on-paper backline of Sandesh Jhingan and Anas Edathodika.
Gianni is a very experienced defender having played at very good clubs in Holland, England and Spain. He can play multiple positions as centre back, holding midfielder and even at right back positions.
With the ball, he is very solid, creative and can make a good pass. Most importantly he is a rock at the defence.
I’m very happy to have him in the team.
Eelco Schattorie, Head Coach, Kerala Blasters FC.
