Mumbai City FC have announced the signing of Northeast United’s Croatian centre-back Mato Grgić for the upcoming ISL season.

The Bosnia-born Croatian defender spent most of his career in the Croatian league system with Hrvatski Dragovoljac, Slaven Belupo and Inter Zaprešić.

Grgić and fellow countryman Mislav Komorski were both signed from Inter Zaprešić by Northeast United FC before the start of the the 2018-19 Indian Super League.

The Croatians formed a fantastic partnership at the back and Northeast United‘s defence was the meanest in the league with only 18 goals conceded. The solidity at the back coupled with Gallego and Ogbeche operating up front helped the Highlanders reach the play-offs for the first time in their history in the 2018-19 ISL season.

Grgić follows his teammate Rowllin Borges who joined the Islanders a couple of weeks ago and is widely expected to partner Lucian Goian in defence.
