Mumbai City FC have announced the signing of Indian international and Northeast United FC midfielder Rowllin Borges on a three-year contract.

The 26-year-old had a breakout year in the recently concluded 2018-19 ISL and finished the season with four goals and two assists.

Guided by coach Eelco Schattorie, the defensive midfielder transformed into a box-to-box midfielder over the course of the season. With 82% passing accuracy in the league and with the inherent ability to break up play, Borges was a vital part of Northeast United’s successful campaign which ended at the play-off stage.

Hailing from Nuvem, Goa, Rowllin spent his formative years as part of Sporting Club de Goa’s youth team. He would eventually join the club’s senior team in 2011 and represent them in the I-League. With Sporting Goa pulling out of the I-League in the 2016-17 season, Borges signed for Northeast United in 2016.

Rowllin has also represented the Indian National Team and has 29 appearances to his credit having made his debut in 2015.

The tireless midfielder has improved by leaps and bounds this year – prior to this season, he never got on the score sheet for the Highlanders. In signing Rowllin, Mumbai City FC have probably pulled off an astute signing and their midfield looks on point alongside newly-capped Indian international Raynier Fernandes.
