Kerala Blasters sign 17-year-old midfielder Zayed Bin Waleed

Kerala Blasters have announced the signing of Calicut-born Zayed Bin Waleed from the Du LaLiga HPC U-18 Team in Dubai, UAE. The High Performance Centre team participates in Du LaLiga, the school championship held in Dubai in association with the Spanish La Liga.

Zayed holds an Indian passport and the teenager spent most of his formative years in UAE. The left-footed midfielder as part of the High Performance Centre has trained with coaches from La Liga and has been on exposure tours to Spain where the HPC squad played against youth teams of Almeria, Granada, Malaga, Real Betis and Sevilla.

Apart from DuFC, Zayed has had stints with Manchester United and Manchester City soccer schools in Abu Dhabi and trained with Abu Dhabi based clubs Al Jazira FC and Al Nasr FC. He was also part of the Al Ethihad Sports Academy which is based out of Abu Dhabi.

At the age of 16, Zayed was selected for the U-18 Indian NT probables camp, but did not make the final cut. The 17-year-old has drawn comparison with Sahal Abdul Samad, the ISL’s Emerging Player of the Year 2018-19, and has good passing and dribbling attributes.
