Following the Japanese midfielder Katsumi Yusa’s move to Chennai City, NEROCA FC have announced a raft of departures from the club.
The Brazilian defender Eduardo Ferreira, the Liberian centre-back Varney Kallon and the Nigerian forward Felix Chidi’s departures were announced from the club yesterday.
Posts on social media by the Imphal-based club earlier this month announced the departures of the Japanese midfielder Katsumi Yusa, the Australian defender Aryn Williams and the Bhutanese forward Chencho Gyeltshen.
NEROCA FC had recently expressed their displeasure with AIFF’s handling of the I-League. Additionally, the lack of a road map for the future of the league is probably the main reason for disinvestment leading to the departure of foreign players.
There are also unconfirmed reports on social media that the owners of NEROCA FC, the Classic Group of Hotels, have ended their association with the club and the club is on the lookout for new sponsors. If this is indeed true, although it looks like the club will continue to exist, their continued participation in the I-League or a forced-fed variation of it looks in jeopardy.
This could well be another heartbreak and another gravestone on the Indian Football field.
