Final 23-man squad announced for the AFC Asian Cup 2019

Indian National Football Team

The 23-man Indian Football Team scheduled to participate in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 which commences on the 5th of January has been announced.

India will take on Thailand in their opening Group A encounter on the 6th of January at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The squad has been trimmed down to 23 from the initial set of 28 players who travelled to the UAE.

Prominent misses from the 28 include Chhangte who’s been the only bright spot for Delhi Dynamos this season. The attacking midfielder has created chances galore and is Delhi’s highest goalscorer so far in the league.

At least one forward from the pair of Manvir Singh and Farukh Choudhary could probably have been chosen instead of Balwant Singh who has been having a forgettable season at ATK.

The complete squad is listed below:

Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh, Vishal Kaith.

Defenders: Pritam Kotal, Sarthak Golui, Salam Ranjan Singh, Anas Edathodika, Sandesh Jhingan, Subhasish Bose, Narayan Das.

Midfielders: Udanta Singh, Jackichand Singh, Anirudh Thapa, Germanpreet Singh, Vinit Rai, Rowllin Borges, Pronay Halder, Ashique Kuruniyan, Halicharan Narzary.

Forwards: Sunil Chhetri, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Sumeet Passi, Balwant Singh.
