MATCH PREVIEW

-After drawing their last four fixtures, Jamshedpur will look for three points when they host a free-scoring FC Goa at the JRD Tata Sports Complex Stadium. They were 2-0 up against Kerala Blasters at half-time, but ended up conceding two goals late into the second half and drawing the game.

With Tim Cahill scoring a trademark header off a corner and Soosairaj scoring a brilliant curler in the Kerala game on Monday, Jamshedpur can be casually optimistic going into this game. Cidoncha has been a great signing for them and is the club’s top performer with two goals and three assists.

The midfielder Mario Arques has impressed and if the Jamshedpur defence holds up, especially in the absence of Coro, Jamshedpur can edge this. They have good home support at ‘The Furnace’ and that should egg them on.

FC Goa will sorely miss Coro who was shown a straight red for a needless high-footed challenge in the 91st minute against FC Pune City. With six goals and four assists in four games, Coro is on top of the leaderboard both in terms of goals and assists and is the lynchpin of the Goan attack.

In Coro’s absence, Miguel Palanca, the former Real Madrid B and Espanyol B player might get a start. The forward impressed in the game against Mumbai City with a brace in eight minutes. Jackichand Singh has looked bright and sprightly and already has a goal and a couple of assists to his credit.

Goa are strong in midfield with Ahmed Jahouh and Edu Bedia, but in defence, Mourtada Fall and Sana Singh will be in for a testing time against Tim Cahill and Farukh Choudhary.

FC Goa have goals across the pitch with midfielders and defenders in among the assists and goals. They will go into the game with confidence considering they beat Jamshedpur three times last season (ISL & Super Cup). Today’s game might get a bit edgy – six red cards were shown in the Super Cup quarterfinal.

TALKING POINTS

-Jamshedpur were rampant in attack right from kick-off and all that positivity going forward got them a goal. For the opening goal, the Goan defence were guilty of ball-watching. A routine corner kick landed on Pratik Chowdhary’s feet who managed to get the ball to Soosairaj in space in the 18 yard box. Soosairaj scored with minimal fuss to make it 1-0 to Jamshedpur.

-FC Goa equalized in the 33rd minute. Defender Mourtada Fall scored past Subrata Paul with a diving header from a free kick off Edu Bedia.

-Jamshedpur were constantly creating chances and their pressing game was pinning Goa down. They took the lead again in the second half when Cidoncha found Soosairaj in space on the left flank. The Goa keeper Nawaz came rushing out when he shouldn’t have and Soosairaj finished it with a little flick shot over the keeper.

-FC Goa finally got the memo that the game was done and dusted when Jamshedpur midfielder Memo scorched the net with a left-footed banger from outside the box in the 77th minute.

-Sumeet Passi managed to get himself on the scoresheet with a tap in and due credit must be given to the Goan defence for enabling that.

Nawaz once again rushed out and tried to grab a through ball off the right flank from Carlos Calvo – and missed it completely. Sumeet Passi was rewarded for continuing his run with a simple tap-in. 4-1 to Jamshedpur.

-A ground-breaking performance by Jamshedpur which gives them company amongst the elite this season. They are third in the table below NEUFC and Goa.

Goa needs to look into the keeper situation and their atrocious defending – maybe an outing is on the cards for Lalthuammawia Ralte, the former Shillong Lajong and Bengaluru custodian as they await the return of Coro.
