MATCH PREVIEW
-The defending champions Chennaiyin FC will look to register their first win this season against Northeast United FC. They lost narrowly to Bengaluru FC away in their opening fixture and were beaten comprehensively at home by a very attack-minded FC Goa.
– Bartholomew Ogbeche, the former PSG player is leading the Northeast United attack and he looks like he could be a threat to any opposition.
-Last season, Chennaiyin comprehensively beat NEUFC 3-0 at home. This season, Northeast United are lacking a bit in individual quality when compared to Chennaiyin’s squad and they have to contend with the humidity and heat playing Chennaiyin at the Marina Arena.
-Chennaiyin FC forward Jeje Lalpekhlua needs to find his shooting boots again – although he didn’t get much service from his midfield in the first two games. Indian international Anirudh Thapa is expected to start and we could look forward to some link-up play between them.
–Northeast United beat a strong Kolkata side and were an even match in the draw against FC Goa. Chennaiyin have gotten off to a false start with two losses in as many games; The defending champions will be looking for some redemption.
-In other team news, NEUFC goalkeeper TP Rehenesh has been handed an interim suspension for punching ATK player Gerson in a match between NEUFC and ATK on the 4th of October. He will not be between the sticks in the game against Chennaiyin today.
No foul, no card.
A video accessed by @SK_IndFootball shows @Rehenesh13 punching Gerson in 5th minute of #HeroISL game between @NEUtdFC and @ATKFC. No red card for the goalkeeper but ATK saw Sena Ralte sent off and went on to lose 0-1 on Oct 4. #DELKOL #CHENEU #Indianfootball pic.twitter.com/eb4v992T9z— Aravind S (@arvisusi) October 17, 2018

TALKING POINTS
-A masterful performance by NEUFC striker Ogbeche. He scored three goals from the four chances he had – all in a span of ten minutes. He single-handedly dragged Northeast United out of the quagmire they dug themselves into conceding two goals within the first 15 minutes.
-Rowllin Borges played well in midfield today alongside Jose Leudo who helped him express himself. Although culpable for the first Chennaiyin goal, he came into his own in the second half and scored the winner which was no more than a firm pass.
-It was good to see Thoi Singh at the end of two goals for Chennaiyin FC. The journeyman rarely started last season and this brace should help him grow in confidence.
-Chennaiyin need to plug holes in their defence, and fast. To sight an example, Karanjit Singh spilled a routine shot at goal followed by Eli Sabia failling to clear the ball twice. This allowed Ogbeche to sneak in a goal for NEUFC and allowed them back in the game. They were trailing 0-2 at this point.
-For Chennaiyin, moving Calderon to midfield was a decent ploy, but to play Fernandes at right back was a stroke of madness.
