Taichung Blue Whale Women’s Football Team of Chinese Taipei finished in style after defeating India’s Odisha Football Club 4-0 in their AFC Women’s Champions League 2024-25 Group C tie on Saturday.

The result meant Taichung and China PR’s Wuhan Jiangda Women’s FC advanced to the knockout stage as the two best third-placed finishers.

Both sides went into the game still searching for their first points, with a win potentially taking them through to the knockout stage.

Taichung looked for the early goal but were let down by a combination of poor finishing and Shreya Hooda in Odisha’s goal with Lin Ya Hsuan and Maho Tanaka going just wide with their respective efforts while Silawan Intamee’s long range strike was tipped over by the custodian.

Chances kept falling the way of Thai international Intanmee, having already pulled one curler wide, but she found Hooda to be a stumbling block as the goalkeeper pushed a rasping drive in the 33rd minute out for a corner kick.

The Chinese Taipei side eventually found the breakthrough in the 42nd minute, Intanmee setting up Chen Jin Wen for a stabbed finish before Tanaka scored three minutes later to give Taichung a comfortable half-time lead.

Taichung went in search of more goals in the second half as they looked to improve their goal difference, with their persistent pressure paying off in the 57th minute as Intanmee smashed home a left-footed shot from a Liu Chien Yun through pass.

Chen got her second in the 69th minute, sweeping the ball into an unguarded goalmouth after Pitsamai Sornsai’s effort was parried by Hooya.

Taichung continued to push for more but couldn’t find additional goals as they ended their group stage campaign on a winning note while Odisha suffered their third straight defeat.
