Lynda Kom’s second half brace powered India’s Odisha Football Club to a 4-1 win over Singapore’s Lion City Sailors in their AFC Women’s Champions League 2024-25 Preliminary Stage Group B tie on Sunday.

The win sets Odisha up nicely for their concluding tie against Etihad Club on Saturday, with the Jordanian side to meet the wounded Lion City Sailors on Wednesday in the three-team group.

It was a tightly contested affair at the Prince Mohammed Stadium in the opening minutes but Odisha gradually seized control and took the lead in the 20th minute through an own goal by Lion City’s Dorcas Chu.

However, Lion City came back fighting and equalised in the closing seconds of the half through Raeka Ee to leave the match delicately poised heading into the break.

After a slow start to the second half, the game came alive just before the hour mark as Kom showed her quality with strikes in the 54th and 57th minutes, before Syazwani Ruzi conceded an own goal in the 88th minute as Odisha completed the win in style.
