
Mohammedan SC have brought in Kibu Vicuna to replace the outgoing Head Coach Andrey Chernyshov for the rest of the season.
Under the Russian manager Andrey Chernyshov, MDSC are currently languishing in ninth place in the I-League with three wins, two draws and four losses from nine games.
The Spaniard Kibu Vicuña returns to the City of Joy having won the I-League title with Mohun Bagan in 2019-20. Since then, the 51-year-old UEFA Pro License coach managed Kerala Blasters in the 2020-21 ISL season and more recently was in charge of Polish club ŁKS Łódź in 2021-22. With the team sitting ninth in the league, he was let go from the Polish second division club in March 2022.
Prior to his first stint in India with Mohun Bagan, Vicuna was in charge of Polish club Wisla Plock and Lithuanian club FK Riteriai/FK Trakai. Kibu also worked as assistant manager to Jan Urban, the Polish manager, notably at Spanish club CA Osasuna and top Polish side Legia Warsaw. He has coached César Azpilicueta, Javi Martinez, Nacho Monreal and Raul Garcia during his managerial career and has several coaching certifications from the Spanish FA.
Mohammedan SC have also announced the arrival of high-profile players recently as their quest to gain promotion to the ISL takes a serious turn.
