
Roundglass Punjab FC have announced the departure of head coach Ashley Westwood and have replaced him with Dutch manager Ed Engelkes.
Westwood was appointed head coach at Punjab FC late in July 2021. He has considerable experience with football in India having led Bengaluru FC to the I-League title twice and also served as technical director at ATK. Currently, Roundglass are third on the I-League table with three wins, two draws and one loss from six matches.
Punjab FC indicated that the parting of ways with Ashley was by mutual agreement.
The incoming coach – Ed Engelkes is 58 years old and after a brief playing career took to coaching in his early twenties. In 1990, Ed was appointed by KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association) in a technical/administrative role.
From 2004, Engelkes worked mainly in women’s football taking on an assistant manager role for the Netherlands Women’s NT followed by head coach roles at AZ Alkmaar Women and Ajax Women where he won the Eredivisie multiple times over the next few years.
2014 was the year Ed took up his next coaching role at current Dutch fourth-tier club VVOG and from November 2017 to January 2020, he was a youth coach at Ajax.
Engelkes will take charge at Roundglass Punjab FC with immediate effect. Their next match is against Real Kashmir FC on March 25th.
