Santosh Trophy star Jithin MS joins Gokulam Kerala FC

Gokulam Kerala FC have wrapped up a deal for 21-year-old winger Jithin MS for the upcoming I-League season. Jithin joins the Durand Cup champions from the Kochi-based ISL side Kerala Blasters.

Hailing from Thrissur, the winger/forward failed to make a single appearance for the Blasters’ senior side in his nearly two-year stint at the club. The KBFC head coach Eelco Schattorie went on record saying the player’s physical attributes were not suitable for the ISL.

Jithin MS is a fantastic player but he is still very young. He is not the tallest, he is not the biggest, that makes it very difficult for him.

Hopefully, he will get playing time outside so he can grow.

I encourage young players but they have to bring something to the table, we are not a charity.

I did not understand what happened there. I do not know what their intention was.

I spent two years there without getting a chance. I couldn’t show my potential.

Jithin’s peformances in the Santosh Trophy are what brought him into the limelight. He helped Kerala win the 2017-18 edition of the tournament and was joint top scorer alongside Rahul KP. The winger has excelled this season in the Santosh Trophy as well under the Kerala Head Coach Bino George.

During his stint with the Blasters, Jithin turned up for the reserves side in the 2nd Division League and was subsequently loaned out to Ozone FC.

I wish to make a comeback this season. I played the Santosh Trophy again under coach Bino George and managed to do well. He is a very good coach, trains us well and gives us a lot of advice.

The coaches from Gokulam spoke directly to Blasters and there was a loan offer or I could resign. I left the club and signed for Gokulam. I did that to get a chance to play.
