Khalid Jamil replaces Sankarlal Chakraborty as Head Coach of Mohun Bagan

Mohun Bagan have appointed Khalid Jamal as head coach to replace Sankarlal Chakraborty who resigned from the post on Sunday.

Khalid Jamal previously led Aizawl FC to the I-League championship in the 2016-17 season. Aizawl FC who were supposed to be relegated in their title-winning season, but were reinstated and went on to became the first northeastern team to win the I-League.

Following his unprecedented and unexpected success at Aizawl FC, he was signed by East Bengal the next season (2017-18), but was unceremoniously shown the door after missing out on the league title narrowly on the final day of the season. East Bengal did make it to the final of the Super Cup under his tutelage where they lost to Bengaluru FC

Mohun Bagan have seen their title challenge derail this season. They are in sixth position in the league and have lost their previous two encounters against NEROCA FC and Real Kashmir.

Khalid Jamil’s first challenge will be the match against defending champions Minerva Punjab FC on January 9th at home.
