
Chhinga Veng FC continued their quest to retain their title in the Mizoram Premier League with a 2-1 win over Bethlehem Vengthlang FC at Aizawl on Thursday.
The newly-promoted side led the 2017/18 champions at halftime courtesy a Laldinliana Varte curler in the 43rd minute. Chhinga Veng FC responded in the second half as Lalnuntluanga found the back of the net with a long-range effort in the 69th minute.
Two minutes later Jacob Lalrawngbawla added a second for the defending champions as they held on to their 100% start. Bethlehem Vengthlang FC will mourn the missed opportunity to pick up a point, as they slumped to their second defeat in a row.
All square between Aizawl and Chanmari
Earlier in the day, two-time champions Aizawl FC and Chanmari FC were involved in an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Aizawl FC had an early lead when Isak Vanlalruatfela put through Lalremsanga. The striker calmly finished slotted past the keeper to put his team 1-0 up in the 6th minute. Chanmari FC hit back on a set piece in the 14th minute, when Lalrosanga headed in a cross by Laldampuia to level the scores.
Both sides missed their chances to take the lead until Isak Vanlalruatfela struck from long range in the 39th minute to put Aizawl ahead.
In the second half, Chanmari FC pressed for the equalizer. They were finally rewarded when Lalnunzama met with Lalengkima’s delivery to put his side on level terms.
There was late drama when Chanmari’s goalscorer Lalrosanga was sent off after a technical foul. Chanmari managed to keep their shape at the back and held off a rampaging Aizawl attack to ensure the match ended in a draw.
Electric Veng’s charge to the top
The following day, a late goal from Lalchhuanawma helped Electric Veng beat Mizoram Police by a solitary goal. The 100% record has put Electric Veng on top the table alongside Chhinga Veng with 6 points. Both teams share an identical goal difference after two rounds.
Chawnpui FC and Ramhlun North FC played out a 1-1 draw. After a scoreless first half, the match came to life when Lalliansanga put Ramhlun North ahead in the 53rd minute. Chawnpui responded within 10 minutes, courtesy a Vanlalthanga goal in the 63rd minute. The result meant that the two sides have picked up their first points of the season when they
The third round of the Mizoram Premier League will take place on the 20th and 21st of September.
Chawnpui FC will face Electric Veng in the 2 p.m. kickoff. Meanwhile, Chanmari FC faces Bethlehem VT in the 7 p.m. kickoff.
The following day, Chhinga Veng FC will look to remain at the top spot when they face Ramhlun North in the afternoon kickoff. In the evening kickoff, Mizoram Police will face the I-League side, Aizawl FC.
