Chhinga Veng FC was off to a winning start in the seventh edition of the Mizoram Premier League at Aizawl. The 2017/18 champions beat newly-promoted side Chawnpui FC by a solitary goal from Lalromawia in the 83rd minute during the afternoon kickoff at Lammual Stadium in Aizawl.

Having already won the Independence Cup and MFA Super Cup earlier this year, Chhinga Veng is on course to achieve a rare treble in Mizoram football. In the second match, Mizoram Police beat Bethlehem VT by a similar scoreline with the aid of Lalfakzuala’s goal in the 50th minute.

The following day, Electric Veng beat Aizawl FC with a 2-1 scoreline. Electric Veng went ahead courtesy an own goal by Aizawl skipper Alfred Jaryan in the 69th minute.

Isaak Vanlalpeka doubled the lead in the 71st minute to put Aizawl under more pressure. Jaryan halved the deficit in the 80th minute. The newly-promoted side held on to the lead to win the match against their much-fancied crosstown rivals.

The last match of the first round saw two-time champion Chanmari FC beat Ramhlun North FC 2-0. Lalnuntluanga and Lalnunzama were the goalscorers in the 10th and 40th minute respectively.

Earlier this year, Chanmari signed a strategic alliance with FC Pune City. Indian Super League will help build a youth structure by providing them with coaches and training equipment.

The second round of the Mizoram Premier League will take place on the 13th and 14th of September. Aizawl FC will face Chanmari FC in the 2 p.m. kickoff, while Bethlehem VT faces Chhinga Veng in the 7 p.m. kickoff.

The following day, Electric Veng FC will face Mizoram Police in the afternoon kickoff, while Chawnpui will face Ramhlun North later that evening.
