Kerala Blasters FC have brought on-board 37-year-old Chennaiyin FC forward Mohammed Rafi on a free transfer for the upcoming season.

Rafi had previously turned up for Kerala Blasters in the 2015 and 2016 ISL editions and the move brings the centre-forward back to his home state of Kerala.

Born in Kasaragod, Rafi first came into prominence when he was part of State Bank of Travancore’s football team which got promoted to the National Football League in 2004. Over the next few seasons, the striker played mostly in the I-League with Churchill Brothers, Mumbai Tigers and Mumbai FC among others.

In 2014, Rafi was drafted into the ISL with ATK. He scored the match-winner in the final against Kerala Blasters and ATK went onto become the inaugural ISL champions.

The next couple of seasons, he would join Kerala Blasters before making his way to Chennaiyin FC for the 2017-18 season where he would lift the ISL title a second time in his career.

Rafi has been capped seven times for the Indian NT and over the last season at Chennaiyin FC, he scored three goals and assisted two in 12 appearances in all competitions.

The veteran will widely be expected to play second fiddle to Bart Ogbeche who was signed earlier in the season.
