18-year-old ATK Winger Komal Thatal replaces injured Sunil Chhetri at the National Camp

Komal Thatal has been called up for the preparatory national team camp before the friendly against Jordan on November 17th. Komal replaces the injured Indian and Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri who is recovering from an ankle injury.

Komal was part of the Indian team in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup which took place in India. After the world cup, the youngster decided to join ATK instead of playing for Indian Arrows, an AIFF developmental side which participates in the I-League.

The 18-year-old winger who can play on either flank made his debut for ATK last season against Jamshedpur. At 17 years and 132 days, he was the youngest player to play in an Indian Super League match. This season, he scored a goal past the goalkeeper of the national team G.S. Sandhu in the game against Bengaluru.

Steve Coppell, the ATK coach had positive things to say about Komal:

“Komal did very well for us. He’s got energy and he’s got legs. He’s very skilful on the ball. He likes having possession.”

Komal has already made five appearances for ATK. He now joins the national camp in New Delhi with the rest of his teammates.

India will travel to the King Abdullah II International Stadium to play against Jordan in Amman on November 17, 2018. This will be the first time the senior national teams of the two countries are playing in a friendly.
