Goan FC go level on points with Dempo SC after the fourth round of the Goa Professional League. Bardez FC stuns Calangute Association FC, while Vasco Sports Club and Velsao Sports & Cultural Club share the spoils.

Goan FC overcomes Sporting Clube de Goa

Goan FC came from behind to beat Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 in the Goa Professional League at the Duler Stadium.

Sporting started the match on a brighter note and took the lead though Ganesh Thakur in the 17th minute. Stendly Fernandes providing the assist.

Goan FC equalized ten minutes later. A Princeton Rebello free-kick was deflected off Cajetan Fernandes to leave Sporting’s keeper Melroy Fernandes stranded.

Fernandes was brought into action after the break to stop Lalawmpuia from scoring in the 54th minute. Two minutes later, Goan FC defender Saviour Gama tapped in to give the Young Gaurs the lead.

Sporting nearly hit back in the 59th minute when Cajetan Fernandes hit the crossbar. In the very next minute, Goan FC made it 3-1. A Lalawmpuia’s blocked shot found Liston in plenty of space. He passed the ball to an unmarked Kingslee Fernandes who slotted the ball into the net.

The goal brought the Sporting players and the bench to protest for an offside. Mateus Costa, the Sporting coach was sent to the stands by the referee.

Goan FC held on to their lead and moved to 10 points in second place. Meanwhile, Sporting remains on 6 points in fifth place.

Salgaocar snatch a point off Dempo

Salgaocar Football Club overcame a 2-0 deficit to snatch a valuable point against Dempo Sports Club at the Duler Stadium.

The two arch-rivals were involved in a see-saw match.

Dempo led through Jessel Carneiro in the 11th minute. Holding on to a Naveen Mendes pass, Carneiro shot past the keeper to give his team the lead.

Dempo had a couple of chances to extend their lead. Velito Cruz was unlucky to find the net when his well-struck shot just sailed over the goal post. In the 45th minute Salgaocar keeper S Rajini Kumar was alert to the danger and thwarted Beevan D`Mello just outside the penalty box, from which Jessel’s well-struck free-kick missed the target narrowly.

Dempo doubled their lead four minutes after the break. Goalscorer Jessel Carneiro turned provider to enable Joaquim Abranches to double the lead.

The second goal spurred on the Salgaocar team. In the 55th minute, Devendra Murgaonkar tapped into an empty net after some good work from Ronaldo Oliveira.

Dempo’s keeper, Tyson Caiado, was kept busy as Salgoacar went in the hunt for the equalizer. While Salgaocar keeper, Rajini, had to prevent Velito from putting the result beyond doubt.

In the fourth minute of added time, Samson Pereira’s cross was headed in by Devendra Murgaonkar to salvage a precious point for
Salgaocar.

Salgaocar moves to the third place with 7 points, while Dempo remains on top with 10 points.

Bardez FC stun Calangute

A 3-1 win over Calangute Association earned Bardez Football Club their first points of the season.

Bardez FC took the lead in the 20th minute at the Duler Stadium. Cho Lepcha tapping in a rebound off the post to make it 1-0. Richard Cardoz doubled the lead in the 43rd minute after being teed up by Ong Lepcha.

After the break, Calangute Nicolau Colaco got one back for his team in the 51st minute. The skipper directed his header into the net after a Dominic Fernandes free kick.

Richard Cardoz put the match beyond doubt when he tapped in a rebound after Cho Lepcha’s shot hit the post.

While Bardez earned their first points of the season, Calangute is second from bottom with a solitary point.

All square between Vasco-Velsao and Signals-Guardian Angel

Vasco Sports Club and Velsao Sports & Cultural Club played out a goalless draw at the Duler Stadium.

Velsao started brightly with a Bersal Viegas freekick hit the bar in the 15th minute. Minutes later Joseph Pereira narrowly missed opening the scoring for Velsao.

On crossing ends, both teams played some attacking football but were unable to find the back of the net.

At the closing stages, Vasco’s Jaison Vales had the chance to score after an Anil Gaonkar effort rebounded off the post. Meanwhile, Velsao nearly stole a win when Manjunath Rathod’s strike hit the bar.

Vasco is on five points, while Velsao opened their account with one point.

At the Navelim Camp (Rawanfond) Grounds, Corps of Signals rallied to hold Guardian Angel SC to a 1-1 draw.

Guardian Angel SC shot into the lead in the 32nd minute of play through a goal scored by striker Alvito Miranda. Alwayn Vaz with the assist.

After chasing the game for most of the proceedings, Corps of Signals equalized from the spot kick. The referee awarding the penalty after Pawan Thakur was brought down. Nim Tshering Bhutia stepped up to beat Guardian Angel keeper, Ozen Silva.

Corps of Signals gained their first points of the season, while Guardian Angel earned their third draw and are on 3 points.

The match between Panjim Footballers and Churchill Brothers has been rescheduled.

Goan FC to take on Dempo in Round 5

Salgaocar will aim to secure three points when they host Velsao SCC, while Guardian ASC and Bardez FC will look to climb up the table,

Sporting CD Goa will aim to get back to winning ways when they visit Calangute Association.

In the top of the table clash, Goan FC will welcome Dempo SC.

Churchill Brothers will focus on the state league when they host Corps of Signals. Finally, while Vasco SC will host Panjim Footballers to close off the round.
