Odisha FC have wrapped up a season-long loan deal for Malaysian NT and Johor Darul Ta’zim FC midfielder Liridon Krasniqi.

Born in the village of Gërmova in former Yugoslavia (now in Kosovo), Liridon spent his developmental years at FC Nürnberg and Czech clubs SK Slavia Prague and FK Mladá Boleslav. He turned pro in 2011 with FK Mladá Boleslav who compete in the top-tier Czech First League. In 2013, Krasniqi moved to Turkish club Ankaraspor from where he was briefly loaned out to another Turkish club Fethiyespor.

Early in 2015, the 6′ 4″ attacking midfielder joined second-tier Malaysia Premier League club Kedah Darul Aman and helped them win the league and promotion to the Malaysia Super League. Over the next two years, he won the Malaysia Cup and the Malaysia FA Cup with the club.

In 2019, Liridon briefly turned up for Malaysian club Melaka United before joining Johor Darul Ta’zim FC towards the end of the year. He won the Malaysia Super League the following year with the club. Last season (early in 2021), Krasniqi joined A-League side Newcastle Jets FC on loan and now the 29-year-old’s move to Odisha FC is his second loan spell from JDT.

Overall in his club career, Liridon has featured in 95 matches in which he has scored 15 goals and assisted 20.

The midfielder holds the distinction of representing three countries internationally. He represented Albania at the U-21 level in 2011, Kosovo’s senior team in 2014 and recently Malaysia in June 2021. He was given Malaysian citizenship in February of 2020 after staying in the country beyond five years. He also holds an Albanian passport and the citizenship of Kosovo.
