Bengaluru FC have appointed former Germany Youth National Team manager Marco Pezzaiuoli as the new head coach on a three-year contract.

Prior to joining BFC, the 52-year-old German-born Italian manager served as Technical Director at Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt between the years 2018 and 2020.

Pezzaiuoli started his coaching career with current German second-tier club Karlsruher SC followed by a stint at another German club SV Eintracht Trier 05. In 2007, he joined the German National Team youth setup managing the U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 teams. His U-17 side comprising of Mario Gotze, Marc Andre ter Stegen and Shokradan Mustafi won the 2009 European Championship. Marco also worked as a team analyst for the German NT at the 2008 Euros.

In 2010, Marco got back into club management with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for a year following which he joined J1 League side Cerezo Osaka. He was let go at both of these clubs due to poor performances by the teams.

The next assignment Pezzaiuoli took up was as Director of Youth Development at Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao for a few years after which he joined Eintracht Frankfurt as Technical Director – his most recent role.

Here’s his record at senior club level (Source: transfermarkt):

Marco is expected to join the club after ISL 7 ends and will lead the team into the AFC Cup play-off match expected to be played on April 14. He replaces the outgoing coach Carles Cuadrat who left the club by mutual consent following disappointing results for the Blues in the current ISL league campaign. BFC ‘B’ coach Naushad Moosa is currently the interim manager at the club.

I’m very proud to be a part of Bengaluru FC, and excited about the challenge to bring the team back to the top.

I am always keen to gather experiences in life and football and to be able to make a difference wherever I go. I’m also keen to share my experience to help Indian football grow.

I’m really looking forward to joining the team as soon as I can.
