Jamshedpur FC have signed Northeast United FC goalkeeper Pawan Kumar ahead of the 2020-21 ISL season.

Born in Gurdaspur in Punjab, Pawan was part of JCT FC’s youth setup during his formative years and transitioned to the senior side in 2010. After the club dissolved in 2011, Kumar moved to Air India FC for a year and then a season at Salgaocar FC followed.

In 2013-14, Pawan moved to the newly formed Bengaluru FC who entered the I-League through corporate entry. The Blues went onto win the league in their debut season and Kumar notched up 20 appearances during the league campaign.

After a couple of years at BFC, the custodian spent the next few seasons at Chennaiyin FC – a period in which he was loaned out to I-League sides Mumbai FC and Mohun Bagan. NEUFC came calling in July of 2018 and over the last two seasons Pawan has featured in 18 matches and picked up six clean sheets.

The 30-year-old will likely be the first choice between the sticks at Jamshedpur FC and will wear the No. 1 jersey.

I am delighted to have joined Jamshedpur. Looking at the growth of the club over the past three seasons, I always had an ambition to be at the Furnace – it’s like a dream come true.

It’s a huge challenge for me as I know we want to qualify for the ISL play-offs in our quest to become champions of India.

Football is like theatre and there are no performances without a fabulous audience. The fan following in Jharkhand and Jamshedpur is absolutely amazing as the passion for the game runs sky high.

The Furnace lights up with over 20,000 spectators each time Jamshedpur plays and I will be pumped up to have these vociferous fans on my side.

Pawan Kumar
