2020-21 I-League and 2nd Division League Qualifiers to be held in Kolkata

Pointers from the AIFF League Committee Meeting held via video conferencing today. The meeting was chaired by Subrata Dutta, Senior Vice President, AIFF and Chairman, League Committee.

  • AIFF and State Associations will conduct the leagues at a single venue adhering to the COVID-specific SOP laid out by the league department.
  • The duration of the Indian Super League (ISL) and the I-League will be looked into to ensure the safety of players. The Chinese Super League for example which is a nine-month league has been condensed into a shorter format.
  • The Minister of Sports, Government of West Bengal has assured requisite permissions will be granted to organise 2nd Division League qualifiers, and subsequently the 2020-21 I-League. As a result, the league committee has decided to grant the hosting rights to IFA, Kolkata. The schedule will be announced once guidelines from the central government are issued.
  • Additionally, the committee has granted an extension till September 30, 2020 for submission of all relevant documents for academies which have applied for AIFF Academy Accreditation.
