Bengaluru FC sign Brazilian forward Cleiton Silva

Bengaluru FC have signed 33-year-old Brazilian forward Cleiton Silva on a one-year deal with an option to extend it by another year.

Born in São Geraldo da Piedade, Brazil, Cleiton was part of the youth setup at Madureira, a club based out of Rio de Janeiro. He made his way to the senior team in the 2008-09 and over the years played club football predominantly in Thailand and had short stints in Mexico and China.

Silva is the all-time leading top scorer in the Thai League 1 (top tier league in Thailand) with 97 goals coming in 157 matches. He was also the league’s top goalscorer on two occasions. Most of Cleiton’s goals came with Muangthong United FC with whom he won the league and the league cup in 2016.

The striker who can also play as a winger last turned up for Suphanburi FC – from where joins Benglauru FC.

I’ve signed with Bengaluru FC because I want to be a champion and this is a club that is always after titles. I have that opportunity once again at BFC.

I want to make the club and its fans happy. I have been following the club for some time now, because we were in talks a while ago. And I liked what I saw.

I am looking forward to making my way to Bengaluru and am excited to meet my new teammates, the fans and embrace the city,

Cleiton Silva

Bengaluru FC struggled on the goal-scoring front last season in the ISL with Miku’s departure. His replacement Manuel Onwu did not score a goal in six appearances and was shipped out to Odisha FC where he did manage to rediscover his form.

With Cleiton’s signing, the Blues will expect a glut of goals from the Brazilian in the upcoming season of the Indian Super League which is expected to start in November 2020.
