Marcus Mascarenhas scored a hattrick to help Sporting Clube de Goa stay five points clear at the top of the Goa Professional League table with a 5-0 win over Guardian Angel SC. 

Churchill Brothers stay in the hunt in second place courtesy a come from behind win against Corps of Signals. Defending champions, FC Goa, concede a goal in the 93rd minute to share the points against Dempo. 

Marcus Mascarenhas hattrick in Sporting’s 5-0 win

Boosted by a Marcus Mascarenhas hattrick, Sporting Clube de Goa beat Guardian Angel Sports Club by a 5-0 margin in the Goa Professional League.

Dominating the match from the start, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Guardian Angel defense failed to clear a corner and Marcus slotted the ball home to make it 1-0. The lead was doubled in the first half injury time. Marcus on the scoresheet again.

The goalscorer turned provider 10 minutes after the break. A flick off a throw in put Philip Odogwu through on goal and the Nigerian striker slotted the ball home to make it 3-0.

U-20 forward Stendly Fernandes made it 4-0 for the Flaming Orange as he cut past a Guardian Angel defender in the box and put it past the keeper to make it 4-0.

Marcus completed his hat trick in the 72nd minute. His 12th goal of the campaign helped him overtake Willis Plaza as the leading scorer of the Goa Professional League.

Churchill come from behind to beat the Armymen

Churchill Brothers FC came from behind strongly to register a 2-1 win against Corps of Signals in the Goa Professional League at the 3MTR ground, Rawanfond, Navelim.

The first half was played on equal footing as both teams created half chances. Corps of Signals took the lead in the 33rd minute. Ankit Singh’s left-footed curler beat James Kithan all ends up.

A defense-splitting pass by Signals midfielder, Aditya D’Cruz, found Ankit Singh. The forward had run past past the Churchill Brothers defense and let go a shot which crashed to the far corner of the net.

After a quiet start to the second half, Churchill Brothers found their rhythm. Churchill’s defender, Nongmeikapam Meitei, threatened the Army defense with his headers

Signals keeper, Binu Purushothaman, was finally beaten when Clencio Pinto’s shot from close in the 70th minute. Spurred on by the equalizer, Churchill Brothers went on the hunt for the winner.

The Signals team went down to ten men in the 75th minute when their captain Paul Victor received marching orders for a dangerous foul.

Things got worse for Signals when Israil Gurung found the mark in the very next minute to give Churchill the lead and the three points.

With this win, Churchill Brothers FC are in second place with 29 points from 13 matches.

Dempo fight back to salvage a point

An injury-time goal helped Dempo salvage a point in the Goa Professional League match against FC Goa.

Trailing by a goal, the Ella Ground celebrated the Yogesh’s late strike which canceled out Opi’s opener.

After a goalless first half, the development team of FC Goa dominated proceedings in the second period.

The introduction of Lalawmpuia ‘Opi’ Ralte provided Aaren D’Silva better support up front. The substitution paid off in the 72nd minute when a brilliant run from Nestor in midfield led to a pass to Opi.

The Mizo promptly put the ball at the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The match was heading towards an FC Goa win when a cross from the left side wasn’t dealt with by the Gaurs’ defense. Yogesh fired the ball into the net to make it 1-1 in the 93rd minute. 

The two teams are seperated by two points. Dempo occupy the third spot with 26 points, while FC Goa are in fourth with 24 points.

Panjim rout bottom-placed Velsao 

Panjim Footballers ran riot over Velsao Sports and Cultural Club with a 5-0 victory in the Goa Professional League match played at Rosary Ground.

Panjim Footballers broke the deadlock in the 17th minute through Joyson Gauncar after some good work by Alston Camotio and Chandan Gawas. The young Panjim Footballers skipper Kunal Kundaikar converted from the spot to make it 2-0 as both teams went into the break.

After the restart, Krishna Gawas dribbled past the Velsao defense and the keeper before slotting home to make it 3-0. Chandan Gawas hit the back of the net to make it 4-0 in the 68th minute.

In the 84th minute, Panjim completed the rout with Filton D’Cunha getting on the score sheet. Chandan Gawas with the assist again.

Panjim Footballers are now on 23 points from 15 games while Velsao Sports and Cultural Club remain at the bottom of the table with seven points from 13 games.

Velsao SC have won just two games in the league and are struggling to stay out from the relegation spot.

Signals stage comeback against Vasco

Corps of Signals came from a goal down to beat Vasco SC at the Duler Stadium.

After a goalless first half, Vasco surged ahead through substitute Bibetta Radhakrishnan in the 65th minute.

A corner by Micky was headed on Bibetta by Olumide. The striker made no mistake in slotting the ball into goal.

Two strikes in six minutes by the Armymen turned the match. In the 79th minute, A failed clearance by the Vasco defense fell to Shuklab whose header found Ankit, who beat the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.

Just six minutes later, Signals took the lead. A shot from substitute Nokul Singh deflected off Vasco defender Mainoo Dadanavoor and completely beat Sanju Thapa to bulge the nets.

2-1 and the Armymen secured three vital points. The win takes Signals to 14 points, while Vasco are on 13 points. 

Guardian Angel get the better of Sesa in five goal thriller

Guardian Angel Sports Club registered a 3-2 victory over Sesa Football Academy in the Goa Professional League at Sirsaim Ground.

Guardian Angel SC went ahead in the 10th minute when Gilbert Oliveira’s shot from outside the box nestled into the bottom left corner.

Sesa FA restored parity at the half-hour mark when Shajam’s long-range effort hit the post and deflected into goal off the Guardian Angel SC keeper, Jerico D’Costa. 1-1.

Guardian Angel SC regained the lead in the 36th minute through their Ghanaian striker Yakubu who had a simple finish from inside the box.

With key players, Kunal Salgaonkar and Vishnu, away on duty with the state team in Guwahati, Sesa were not at their best. However, they managed to draw level in the 56th minute through Russel, who was finished a low cross from Shajam.

In the 63rd minute, SESA’s goalkeeper, Sapam, fouled Yakubu in the box and the referee awarded the penalty to Guardian Angel.

Gilbert Oliveira stepped up to convert from the spot and take all three points for his team.

Guardian Angel SC is now on 20 points from 17 games, while Sesa FA has 15 points from 13 outings.
