Bengaluru FC have announced the signing of the prodigiously talented 22-year-old winger Ashique Kuruniyan on a four-year-deal from FC Pune City.

Born in Malappuram, Kerala,  Ashique was part of the FC Pune City academy between the years 2014 and 2016 under the tutelage of current Bengaluru FC assistant coach Naushad Moosa.

In October 2016, the winger was sent out on loan to Spanish club Villarreal “C,” but his spell was cut short due to a hamstring injury.

Ashique signed his first professional contract with FC Pune City in July 2017 and made his debut against Jamshedpur in the ISL 2017-18 season. Over the last two seasons, the 22-year-old has made 26 appearances in the ISL scoring three goals and assisting four.

Kuruniyan has been capped 12 times for the Indian National Team and is very much part of coach Igor Štimac’s plans for the National Team.

I am really glad to have committed my future to a club like Bengaluru FC.

Every young footballer in the country wants to play for BFC and I am happy to be able to realise this dream.

I have a lot to learn from the senior players at the club, as well as the coaching staff and while I know that there is massive competition for places, I am confident and ready for the challenge.

Ashique Kuruniyan

Ashique is the kind of player who can help us in both, attack and defence.

His talent, pace and guile gives us the right kind of selection problems, but more importantly, gives us options.

We’re playing the AFC Cup this season and it’s important that we add Indian talent to the squad for the continental campaign.

We’re looking forward to have him join the club.

Carles Cuadrat, Head Coach, Bengaluru FC.
