Gokulam Kerala FC have announced the signing of 27-year-old winger Malemngamba Meitei from NEROCA FC.
From Yairipok, Manipur, Meitei took an interest in football after watching Brazil’s Ronaldo (The Phenomenon) in the FIFA ’98 World Cup. He signed for NEROCA FC in 2007 and was part of the team which competed in the Manipur State League.
Meitei has experience in multiple leagues across the country. He was part of the HAL, Salgaocar and the Bengaluru FC I-League teams between the years 2010 and 2015. He then played in the Mumbai Football League with Mumbai FC before helping his childhood club NEROCA FC win promotion by winning the 2nd Division League in 2016-17.
The following season, Meitei was drafted into the ISL by Northeast United and made nine appearances for the club before being loaned out to TRAU FC (2nd Div) for the rest of the season.
Malem returned to NEROCA FC for the I-League 2018-19 season and helped the team (19 appearances, one goal, one assist) to a sixth place finish in the league.
The winger joins Gokulam Kerala FC with his pace and trickery intact as was evident in his performances last season.
