Jamshedpur FC have announced the signing of Niraj Kumar – 16-year-old goalkeeper who represented India in the AFC U-16 tournament last year and was part of Ozone FC’s campaign in the 2nd Division League.

The rising star’s talent came to the fore in last year’s AFC U-16 tournament held in Malaysia. Notably in the game against Iran, he pulled off some great saves and saved a penalty which contributed to India making it to the quarterfinal stage. He was also pivotal in Ozone FC’s campaign in the recently concluded 2nd Division League where they made it to the final round.

Jamshedpur have awarded a three-year contract to the teenager as he makes a step up to the Indian Super League.

At school, when I said that I wanted to play football, I was told, ‘Tu school mat aaya kar’ (you need not come to school) by the school authorities.

I am extremely ecstatic to take this step in my career. ISL is the leading league of the country and Jamshedpur FC is an incredible team.

I am thankful to the management for showing faith in me and I am looking forward to being in Jamshedpur for the preseason.

Playing with my childhood hero Subrata Paul and learning as much as I can from him will be a dream.

I cannot wait to meet the fans of Jamshedpur and play at the Furnace.

Jam Ke Khelo Jamshedpur!
