Sporting Clube de Goa move to the second spot after picking up four points in the Goa Professional League, as Goan FC slip to third place.

Abdoul Fall scores four goals against Guardian Angel FC, while Bardez FC has been relegated.

Princeton’s royal show hands Goan FC narrow win

A first-half strike by Princeton Rebello secured a 1-0 win for Goan FC over Bardez FC in the Goa Professional League match at the Duler Stadium.

The development side of FC Goa created the first chance of the match in the 4th minute as Aaren’s shot brought a save from Bardez keeper Hrushikesh Kinalekar.

Goan FC came close to scoring in the 18th minute when Zodlingliana’s shot from distance missed the target by a few inches.

Having possessed the lion’s share of the possession, the Young Gaurs broke the deadlock in the 31st minute.

Kingslee Fernandes set up Princeton with a pass in the box and the latter displayed some good footwork to work his way past his markers before smashing a grounder past the keeper. 1-0 to the Young Gaurs.

In the 37th minute, Goan FC nearly doubled their lead. A Hayden Fernandes free-kick from 35 yards was tipped out expertly by Bardez goalie Kinalekar.

Upon resumption. Goan FC continued to dominate the proceedings. Lalawmpuia came closest to scoring twice. First, a strike deflected off a Bardez defender going out for a corner, while another header hit the post.

The Gaurs continued to pressurize the Bardez defense, in the last quarter. In the 76th minute Kapil’s low cross set up midfielder, Sweden Fernandes in the box but the U-18 player could not put the ball past the Bardez keeper Hrushikesh.

Princeton also had a chance to score his second goal, but his well-taken freekick hit the crossbar. In the end, the lone goal was enough for Goan FC to hang on to a win as Bardez did not offer any threat going forward.

With this win, Goan FC is placed 3rd with 39 points from 16 matches, while Bardez has been relegated from the league after picking up just six points in 20 matches.

Sporting and Vasco pay the penalty in 1-1 draw

Two penalty kicks decided the outcome of the game between Sporting Clube de Goa and Vasco Sports Club as the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw.

Vasco started the better of the two teams, Penn Orji could have put his team ahead in the 4th minute when a shot from outside the box off a loose ball missed the target narrowly.

Minutes later, Moises D’Sa’s cross towards Beneston Barretto was cut off by Sporting keeper Melroy.

Sporting created their first chance in the 23rd minute. Alesh Sawant’s corner was headed towards goal by Cajetan Fernandes. Moises cleared it off the goal line before blocking the rebound off Joston. 

The teams continue to trade blows when Penn Orji found Beneston at the top of the box but the striker shot wide.

Sporting responded with Marcus Mascarenhas setting up Stendly only for Vasco’s Sanju Thapa thwarted the striker. A minute before the end of the half, a Mauvin Borges strike rebounded off the Vasco crossbar.

The deadlock was broken in the 63rd minute when Sporting’s skipper Clemente Joseph brought down Vasco’s Henry Ezeh in the box. Sanwil D’Costa sent Sporting keeper Melroy the wrong way to give his team the lead.

Sporting finally managed to level back from the spot kick in the 75th minute as Vasco’s Rugved Yeole pushed down Sporting striker Marcus in the box to give away the penalty. Cajetan made no mistake to convert and level the score.

With this result, Sporting is on the second spot with 40 points, while Vasco Sports Club stayed on 6th position with 27 points.

Marcus Mascarenhas hat-trick in Sporting’s 8-1 thrashing of Bardez

Earlier in the week, Sporting Clube de Goa registered a thumping 8-1 win over Bardez Football Club in the Goa Professional League at the Duler Stadium.

Marcus Mascarenhas broke the deadlock for Sporting with a firm header in the 26th minute, while Skipper Clemente Joseph made it 2-0 in the 44th minute after an assist by Ganesh Thakur.

Two goals in injury time put the game to bed. Marcus scored the third goal with another header, while Alesh’s clinical finish from inside the box gave Sporting a comfortable four-goal lead at half time.

Five minutes upon resumption, Alesh Sawant scored his brace after being released by Marcus Mascarenhas. Bardez pulled one back in the 55th minute through Richard Cardoz to make it 5-1.

Marcus Mascarenhas got his hat-trick in the 76th minute to make it 6-1. While Mauvin Borges came in as a substitute to score two goals in the 79th and 92nd minutes to make it 8-1.

Abdoul Fall puts four past Guardian Angel in a 7-2 win

The Marcus Mascarenhas hat-trick was overshadowed by a four-goal blitz by Calangute Association’s Abdoul Fall in the 7-2 hammering of Guardian Angel SC at the Rosary Grounds, Navelim.

Guardian Angel took the lead early in the match after Aslon Oliveira’s pass to Clinton Niasso resulted in the latter slamming in the opener in the 12th minute.

The match began to take shape as Calangute Association took over the proceedings. Towards the end of the first half, it was Calangute rampaging towards the Guardian Angel goal.

In the 39th minute, Abdoul Fall volleyed in a corner kick. Two minutes later, Sidath made it 2-1 after some deft footwork, before scoring his team’s second in the 43rd minute finished off a sweeping move to make it 3-1 at the half time break.

Upon resumption, Sunny Fernandes pulled one back in the 49th minute. But Fall scored the team’s fourth in the 62nd minute before completing his hat-trick in the 65th. Calangute defender Gaurav put his name on the score sheet in the 80th minute.

Fall scored his fourth goal in the 84th to round up the scoreline at 7-2.

After this result, Calangute Association is in 10th spot with 16 points, while Guardian Angel remained on the eighth spot with 21 points.

Salgaocar FC lifts CEM Gold Cup

In other news, Salgaocar FC beat Sankata Club, Nepal 4-2 to win the 4th CEM Gold Cup 2019 at the KASA Stadium in Diphu, Assam. The tournament was organized by Karbi Anglong Sports Association.

Devendra Murgaonkar opened the scoring in the first half, before scoring a second after the half time break. Ronaldo Oliveira and Selwin Miranda put the result beyond doubt.

The Nepalese club scored two late goals to add some respectability to the scoreline.
