The AIFF confirmed late last night that India has been selected to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held next year.

The tournament is usually held every two years. Uruguay was the host nation in the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup edition and Spain are the current defending champions.

France and India were the two contenders to host the 16-team tournament. The FIFA Council approved India on the 15th of March. The host country is granted automatic qualification and the other 15 teams are selected via six separate continental competitions.

India had previously hosted the FIFA U-17 World Cup for men in 2017 – England had emerged winners and Spain were the runners-up.
