MATCH REPORT

An entertaining goalless draw if there ever was such a thing as FC Goa could not make their dominance count against Delhi Dynamos.

Both teams had good opportunities throughout the game, but could not convert. Chhangte had a great chance in the fifth minute from a defensive lapse by Goa in the box, but he could only place the ball across the net rather than in it.

Coro who was the top creator tonight setup Hugo Boumous in the 10th minute with a fantastic ball in the box only for the Moroccan to hit the side netting.

After pressing initially, Delhi sat back and defended deeper than usual. Brandon Fernandes was exceptional for the Gaurs tonight and everything they did well in attack went through him. He lined up a couple of shots as well from in and around the box, but couldn’t convert.

There has been a bit of tinkering in terms of selection going on at Goa which meant Edu Bedia did not start tonight’s game. He did come on at the stroke of half-time for Hugo Boumous and immediately made an impact. He had the most attempts on goal for Goa alongside Jackichand Singh (Top Shooter xG).

Looking at the running sum and the team xG graph tonight, Goa did deserve to win on the balance of play. However, to their credit, Delhi put in a defensive shift with Zuiverloon at the helm and threw their bodies on the line. A lot of Goan attempts on goal were wide off the mark and the ones they shot on target, an exceptional Dorrosorro kept the ball out of the net.

Some fantastic late chances fell to Edu Bedia and Jackichand Singh just after the 80th minute. While Edu Bedia shot straight at the keeper, an unmarked Jackichand Singh missed the target from eight yards out.

Delhi will be fairly happy with the draw as they push for a top 6 Super Cup place. They did have their moments, but they did not have a single shot on target and they sorely missed a forward with Daniel Lalhlimpuia peripheral in the game.

Goa played their third game in eight days and the fatigue showed tonight. They will have a breather for a few days as they prepare to stake their claim for a play-off spot. Their next game is against ATK at home on Feb 14th.
