Chennaiyin FC have moved to sign Christopher Herd as a replacement for Inigo Calderon who left the club recently.

Much like Calderon, Herd can play anywhere in defence and can contribute in midfield as well. A graduate of the Aston Villa academy, the Australian has lots of experience in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system.

Apart from Villa, he’s also played for Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic before returning to the A-League in the latter part of his career. Herd most recently turned up for Buriram United who participate in the Thai League 1.

Chennaiyin FC is a new challenge for me and one I am genuinely excited about. I am looking forward to help the club pick up as many points as possible in the remainder of the ISL campaign and of course there are two cup competitions to look forward to after that.

In Chris (Herd), we are adding versatility to our squad with the focus being on the upcoming cup competitions. They will be our top priority and Chris will bring a lot of quality and experience in a vital area of the pitch.
