MATCH PREVIEW

Jamshedpur FC will take on Northeast United at “The Furnace” in a contest where both teams will be looking to solidify their place in the play-offs. A win for either team will help them gain confidence and momentum as they go into the second half of the season. The reverse fixture played earlier in the season saw the teams cancel each other out and play out a score draw.

Both teams go into this game on the back of winning efforts. Jamshedpur scored three goals past Chennaiyin to put them to bed whereas Northeast United got two goals past FC Pune City to further push them into bottom-table anonymity.

The teams boast a wealth of attacking talent in what promises to be a riveting encounter between the two sides.

Although Jamshedpur are without the services of Sergio Cidoncha who is injured, the Spanish attacking midfielder Carlos Calvo has stepped up with some good performances. Michael Soosairaj has been consistently brilliant from the left wing and Tiri has been a bedrock in defence. Meanwhile, Pablo Morgado has owned the right flank both literally and figuratively with the Indian international Jerry Lalrinzuala substituted at half-time in the game against Chennai after the fullback was unable to cope with Pablo.

The only slight chink in the Men of Steel’s armour would be on the striker front. With Tim Cahill playing a bit-part role this season, Sumeet Passi is the first choice up front and they could struggle for goals although it’s quite possible the wingers make up for it.

Northeast United, on the other hand, have the impeccable Bartholomew Ogbeche leading the line and the goalscoring charts with eight goals from eight appearances. Juan Cruz Masica, the Uruguayan forward is in great form with two goals in two matches and coach Eelco Schattorie might start with both of them tonight as he did against FC Pune City.

Their attacking Uruguayan midfielder Federico Gallego has been one of the standout players this season. He has been ably supported by Jose Leudo and Rowllin Borges who have looked peerless in midfield.

With all the talent Jamshedpur have on the wings and looking at Northeast United’s gangly (Looking at you Rowllin Borges) and talented midfield, tonight’s game has the potential to be a showpiece event for the league.

MATCH REPORT

Jamshedpur FC and Northeast United played out a dull, listless draw in a match which was expected to be a showpiece event for the league. Both teams were conservative in their approach and rarely committed players in attack.

In fact, only Northeast United had a shot on target tonight. A shot on goal by Federico Gallego cutting in from the right flank was straight at the keeper who comfortably pawed it away. The sides had a couple of goal-scoring chances, but the shots were off target.

With a point apiece, the teams see no change in their league position. Jamshedpur who are in fourth place face off against Kerala Blasters on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Northeast United who are third in the league will play league leaders Bengaluru FC on Wednesday, Dec. 5.
