Shillong and Minerva play out an exciting draw

FULL-TIME: Shillong Lajong FC 2-2 Minerva Punjab FC

The defending champions Minerva Punjab started the game playing a high press. Shillong Lajong on the other hand were focussed on building from the back.

The first goal came against the run of play – a careless backpass by the Minerva fullback Deepak Devrani was intercepted by Buam who flicked the ball over the keeper for a cool finish. Lajong doubled their lead in the 43 minute from a move started by Buam and finished by the left-back Allen Lyngdoh.

Minerva started their comeback in first-half added time. The Shillong Lajong goalkeeper Neithovilie Chalieu rushed out to intercept a long ball but messed up only for the Ghanian Opoku to get hold of the ball and score his first goal of the season.

Minerva made three changes in the second half, but miscalculated the number of foreign players allowed on the pitch and ended up with six foreign players. They had to bench a player and played the second half with 10 men. But that didn’t stop them from pressing. The equalizer came in the 75th minute from the newcomer Philip Njoku who also got his first goal of the season.

Aizawl FC register their first win of the season

Aizawl FC got their season underway by negotiationg their first three points of the season in a game where both teams lead by a goal twice.

The man of the match Leonce Zikahi opening the scoring for Aizawl in the 25th minute. Jobby Justin equalized in the 63d minute followed by the former Granada defender Borja Gomez who put East Bengal ahead in the 70th minute. Aizawl came back with a goal to level scores and the winner was scored by the super sub Lalkhawpuimawia in the 84th minute.

Chennai City’s Spanish Armada is in full force

FULL-TIME: Chennai City FC 2-1 NEROCA FC

Chennai City: Roberto Eslava (14′) Néstor Gordillo (52′); NEROCA: Singam Subash Singh (66′)

A goal apiece in either half helped Chennai City to a win over NEROCA and extend their lead on the top of the table to seven points. The centre-back Roberto Eslava and midfielder Nestor Jesus were among the goals. Singham Subhash Singh scored for NEROCA and they did try and mount a comeback, but it wasn’t enough.

Chennai City remain unbeaten this season and their Spanish contingent has helped them along the way with 11 out of 15 goals scored coming from four Spanish players.

Real Kashmir blunt Indian Arrows

FULL-TIME: Real Kashmir FC 2-0 Indian Arrows

Real Kashmir: Surchandra Singh (25′) Bazie Armand (68′)

Real Kashmir gave their large home support something to cheer about after picking up their first home win at the picturesque TRC Turf Ground. Real Kashmir started positively and took the lead in the 25th minute from a great strike by Surchandra Singh.

Indian Arrows who started with a more defensive approach let loose in the second half. However, a second goal from a header halfway through the second half by Bazie Armand sealed the deal for the Snow Leopards.

Indian Arrows fought valiantly, but lacked the final touch and coming back from two goal-deficit was always going to be tough.

Churchill Brothers FCG take the carnival to Mohun Bagan

FULL-TIME: Mohun Bagan 0-3 Churchill Brothers FCG

Churchill Brothers: Dawda Ceesay (21′) Willis Plaza (51′, 55′)

Following up on his hat-trick from the previous game against Shillong Lajong, the formal East Bengal striker Willis Plaza willed Churchill Brothers to another win with a brace.

The Gambian midfielder Dawda Ceesay was the other goalscorer for Churchill aside from Willis Plaza in their win against Shillong Lajong. He got in the act in this game as well by opening the scoring for Churchill in the 21st minute.

Churchill Brothers now move into second position and remain unbeaten in the league.
