Dempo SC beat Sporting Clube 3-0 in the second round of the Goa Professional League. Churchill Brothers, Goan FC, and Salgaocar FC also registered wins.

Joaquim sparks demolition of Sporting Clube

Dempo Sports Club registered a fine 3-0 win over defending champions Sporting Clube de Goa in the Goa Professional League.

Two goals and an assist by Joaquim Abranches was the standout performance in the big clash of the second round. Beevan D’Mello was the scorer of the third goal.

After dominating the opening exchanges, Dempo was unable to find the breakthrough. Meanwhile, the Dempo goalie, Tyson Caiado, had to be called into action in the closing stages of the half.

Dempo scored two goals in quick succession in the second half. Joaquim Abranches heading in a cross from Jessel to give his side the lead in the 49th minute.

Joaquim turned provider for the second goal in the 55th minute. His cross from the left side found Beevan D`Mello who scored with a controlled finish to make it 2-0.

Sporting’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when Joaquim scored his brace in the 68th minute. He scored off a rebound off his first attempt was stopped by defender Peter Carvalho to make it 3-0.

Sporting should have scored a consolation goal in the 76th minute, but a feeble header by Victorino off a cross from Assumption Soares into the 6-yard box traveled into the grateful hands of Tyson.

10-man Angel hold Vasco to a scoreless draw

10-man Guardian Angel Sports Club held on to a 0-0 draw against Vasco Sports Club at the Duler Stadium.

Both teams missed opportunities to take the lead in the first half. Angel had the first look at the goal when in the 18th minute Cliffon Dias cleverly flicked the ball off a throw-in from Rosario Mendes to

Nicholas Rodriguez’s weak header in the 18th minute did little to trouble Vasco’s keeper Sanju Thapa.

Meanwhile, Shubham Malwankar’s effort was cleared off the line by Angel’s defender Joaquim Carvalho.

The Vasco team started the second half promisingly and was unlucky when Minesh Kunkolkar’s long ranger hit the crossbar in the 55th minute.

In the 61st minute, Guardian Angel was reduced to 10 men when defender James Fernandes received his second bookable offense following a dangerous tackle on Anil Gaonkar.

Vasco threw in striker Beneston Barretto and Rugeved Yeole in search of a winner. Yeole was guilty of missing a gilt-edged chance to put his team in the lead in the 76th minute.

A curling pass by Moises caught Angel’s keeper Silva out of position, but the substitute hit the side netting.

The rear-guard action by the Angel team denied their opponents to find the all-important winning goal.

Panjim survives late Calangute onslaught

Panjim Footballers Sports Club managed to hold Calangute Association to a goalless draw at the Duler Stadium.

The play was restricted to the midfield as both side failed to create any clear-cut chances for most of the first half. The Panjim team had two half-chances to end the half on a high, but could not place the ball between the posts.

The second half started brightly for Calangute when an overhead kick Sanket Jotkar tested the Panjim keeper Sherwin.

Calangute had the chance to take all three points in the last five minutes of the match. A long ball inside the Panjim penalty box by Calangute’s Dominic to Sachidanand Satelkar was cleared with a diving one hand save by Sherwin.

Sachidanand Satelkar was involved in the next move in the 86th minute. A ball to an unmarked Rohan Pednekar at the far post was hit over the bar.

Another golden opportunity went in vain for Calangute in the 88th minute, where once again Rohan Pednekar saw his header off a cross from Sachidanand travel into the hands of keeper Sherwin.

After Friday ’s encounter Calangute Association has one point after having lost their last league match against Vasco, while Panjim Footballers stays on two points having drawn against Goan FC.

Churchill, Goan FC, Salgaocar register wins

Churchill Brothers SC recorded an easy 2-0 win over Velsao Sports and Cultural Club at the Rosary ground, Navelim.

The I-League team took the lead in the 39th minute through Jovel Martins. As Velsao SCC tried to get back into the game, their hopes suffered a blow in the 66th minute. Uttam Rai scoring Churchill’s second to seal the tie.

At the Duler Stadium, Goan FC registered their first win when they beat Corps of Signals.

Hayden Fernandes came off the bench to score the only goal of the match at the hour-mark. The former Dempo SC player received a short pass from Kingsley Fernandes and hit straight at goal to give the Corps of Signals keeper little chance at stopping.

Salgaocar FC had to come from behind to beat Bardez FC 3-1 at the Duler Stadium. Coming from their 5-0 drubbing against Dempo SC, Bardez FC started the game well. The Bardez team took a surprise lead through Dwayne Ticlo in the 45th minute. Salgaocar FC drew level when Mackroy Peixoto converted a penalty in the 72nd minute. It was a one-way street after the leveler as Daniel Gomes gave Salgaocar the lead in the 81st minute, while Stephen confirmed all three points in the 90th minute.

Big clashes in Round 3

The third round will feature two big clashes between the legacy teams, Vasco SC will host Churchill Brothers on the Oct. 23rd, while Salgaocar FC will host Sporting Clube De Goa on the 26th. Meanwhile, Dempo SC will host Velsao SCC on the 25th.

Guardian ASC will welcome Panjim Footballers, while Calangute will look to earn three points against Corps of Signal on the Oct 27.

Goan FC and FC Bardez complete the third round of matches.
